También estará dispopnible en una caja de lujo con la película en DVD y Blu-ray (con la banda sonora remezclada en sonido 5.1), un libro de 60 páginas con información, fotografías y documentación sobre la producción, y una fiel reproducción del doble EP de vinilo de 7″ que contenía las seis canciones que los Beatles crearon para “Magical Mistery Tour”: ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, ‘The Fool On The Hill’, ‘I Am The Walrus’, ‘Flying’, ‘Blue Jay Way’ y ‘Your Mother Should Know’. La edición incluye abundantes contenidos especiales.
La restauración de Magical Mistery Tour ha sido supervisada por Paul Rutan Jr., de Eque Inc., la misma compañía que restauró recientementeYellow Submarine consiguiendo elogios unánimes. La banda sonora se trabajó en Abbey Road Studios por Giles Martin y Sam Okell. Todas las ediciones tienen contenidos especiales y escenas inéditas del filme, así como entrevistas con Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr y miembros del equipo de la película, además de un comentario en audio grabado por Paul.
En septiembre de 1967, The Beatles cargaron un equipo de rodaje en un autobús junto a familia y amigos, pusieron rumbo a la carretera A30, salieron de Londres y comenzaron su tercera película, esta vez concebida y dirigida por el grupo. “Paul dijo: ‘Tengo esta idea’. Todos respondimos: ‘Estupendo’. Así empezamos”, rememora Ringo.
“Era un producto de nuestra imaginación y, créame, estaba muy viva”, continúa Paul. La película incluía seis nuevas canciones: Magical Mistery Tour, The Fool On The Hill, I Am The Walrus, Flying, Blue Jay Way y Your Mother Should Know. Magical Mistery Tour presenta también un reparto de magníficos actores, como Ivor Cutler, Victor Spinetti, Jessie Robins, Nat Jackley, Derek Royle y la inimitable Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
Aunque The Beatles rodaron 53 minutos de película en color, se estrenó en la televisión británica en blanco y negro, a las 20:35 del 26 de diciembre de 1967 en la BBC1. El filme produjo una inmediata polémica en las clases medias y en los medios de comunicación más conservadores: “¿Quiénes se creen que son? ¡No son directores de cine!”, aullaron. ¿Dónde estaban aquellos chicos de Help! y A Hard Day’s Night?
Como resultado de esta reacción adversa, la película no se emitió en la televisión estadounidense y tuvo una distribución limitada en el resto del mundo. Ahora, 45 años después, Apple y EMI, junto a Omniverse Vision, promoverán a partir del 27 de septiembre una serie de estrenos de Magical Mistery Tour en cines de diferentes países.

It was then broadcast on “Top of the Pops” to mark the “Hello Goodbye” single going to No. 1 in December 1967.
